Belzona 5871

Anti-corrosion thermal insulation barrier for insulating metal pipework

Belzona 5871

Anti-corrosion thermal insulation barrier for insulating metal pipework
Description

Belzona 5871 is a two-component, polymeric, solvent free system providing a thermal insulation barrier with corrosion protection and thermal and sub- zero “cool-to-touch” properties.

This material is designed to be applied to metal pipework, ducting and other industrial equipment. Belzona 5871 is thermally insulating, providing protection against contact-burn injuries, eliminates corrosion/CUI, condensation and anti-icing, improving safety and durability.

Belzona 5871 can be applied by brush, cartridge or plural spray, expanding upon application to produce a lightweight, closed-cell foam. This reduces the surface temperature of metallic substrates to below 60°C (140°F) whilst providing corrosion protection.

  • Excellent corrosion resistance prevents corrosion and eliminates corrosion under insulation (CUI)
  • Belzona 5871 can be brush or spray-applied, for both small, complex geometries or rapid application over a large area
  • Thermal and sub-zero cool-to-touch properties provide worksite personal protection and safety against contact-burn injuries
  • Expands up to three times the thickness it was originally applied, reducing the numbers of layers needed compared to conventional coating systems
  • Thermal insulation reduces the amount of heat transfer through a surface, increasing the efficiency of equipment
  • Solvent-free system
  • Pipework
  • Ducting
  • Tank/Vessel Externals
  • Industrial machinery and equipment

0.6 L and 7.5 L

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

A thermal insulation barrier reduces the transfer of thermal energy between objects or surfaces. The barrier can be made of different materials; at Belzona our thermal insulation barriers are epoxy-based.

Belzona 5871 is a two-component, polymeric, solvent-free system providing a thermal insulation barrier with corrosion protection and thermal and sub-zero “cool-to-touch” properties. Belzona 5871 is thermally insulating, providing protection against contact-burn injuries, eliminates corrosion/CUI, condensation, and anti-icing, improving safety and durability. This reduces the surface temperature of metallic substrates to below 60°C (140°F) whilst providing corrosion protection.

To apply the chemical-resistant coating, Belzona 5871, brush away any loose contamination and remove dirt and oil, and grease. Degrease with Belzona 9111 (Cleaner/Degreaser). Abrade the substrate, if necessary, to create the recommended profile. To mix the material, transfer the entire contents of the Solidifier container into the Base container. Mix thoroughly together to achieve a uniform material free of any streakiness. Next, apply Belzona 5871 directly onto the prepared surface with a short-bristled brush. As soon as possible after the application of the first coat, apply a further coat of Belzona 5871. Suitable areas may be coated by spray using Belzona Cartridge Spray Gun. Spray Belzona 5871 directly onto the surface, immediately after mixing without interruption to ensure foam growth is not hampered during cure. Lastly, allow the product to cure.
