Belzona 5841

An epoxy coating requiring minimal surface preparation for in-situ repair and protection of hot metal surfaces subject to corrosion under insulation.
Description

A solvent-free, 2-part epoxy coating designed to provide outstanding protection to hot metal surfaces against corrosion under insulation (CUI). This surface-tolerant coating can be applied by brush directly onto hot metal surfaces from 30°C to 80°C (86°F – 176°F) with minimal preparation required.

  • In-situ application by brush on live equipment operating at high temperatures with minimal surface preparation
  • Excellent corrosion under insulation (CUI) protection of surfaces up to 80°C (176°F)
  • Reduced health and safety risks as it is solvent-free
  • Fast cure allowing equipment to be re-insulated with minimum delay
  • Good chemical resistance against a wide range of chemicals
  • Excellent adhesion even to manually prepared metals including stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminium, brass and copper
  • Good adhesion to Belzona 5851 (HA-Barrier)* coating in overlap areas
  • Prevention of corrosion under insulation (CUI)
  • Long-term corrosion protection of hot pipework and process equipment
  • In-situ external coating of process vessels operating at high temperature during service, avoiding production downtime
  • *Also available is heat activated Belzona 5851 (HA-Barrier) coating, suitable for applications onto hot surfaces up to 150°C (302°F).

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Yes, a two-part epoxy can be heat-resistant. Belzona recommends using one of our various heat-resistant epoxies when equipment or assets are exposed to high temperatures. The maximum temperature that the epoxies can withstand depends on the individual product.

To apply the high-temperature epoxy, Belzona 5841, brush away any loose contamination and remove dirt and oil, and grease. Degrease with Belzona 9111 (Cleaner/Degreaser). Abrade the substrate, if necessary, to create the recommended profile. To mix the material, transfer the entire contents of the Solidifier container into the Base container. Mix thoroughly together to achieve a uniform material free of any streakiness. Next, apply Belzona 5841 directly onto the prepared surface with a short-bristled brush. As soon as possible after the application of the first coat, apply a further coat of Belzona 5841. Lastly, allow the product to cure. Please see the Instructions for Use (IFU) for more information.
The cure time of the industrial coating, Belzona 5841 is as follows:
Substrate temperature Touch dry/ light loading Full cure
86°F (30°C) 2 ½ hours 24 hours
122°F (50°C) 1 hour 16 hours
176°F (80°C) 20 minutes 8 hours
