Description

Belzona 5721 is a 2-component, high-performance leading edge protection coating, specifically formulated for protecting the leading edge of wind turbine blades from erosion and impact damage.

This leading edge coating is ideally suited for the rigorous of in-situ applications, being easy to apply by brush in a single coat. Together with its low-temperature cure technology, Belzona 5721 can maximise available maintenance opportunities and ensure the turbine’s fast return to service.

It is also safe to use due to being cold applied without the need for specialist tools or equipment. Furthermore, Belzona 5721 is 100% solids and solvent free, making it suitable for factory application.

Erosion on wind turbine blades is caused by various things such as rain, hail, salt, UV, and particulate matter, resulting in leading-edge erosion.
Belzona recommends using Belzona 5721 for leading-edge protection. The repair material is a 2-component, high-performance coating, specifically formulated for protecting the leading edge of wind turbine blades from erosion and impact damage.
To apply the erosion-resistant coating, Belzona 5721 first, prepare the surface in accordance with the product Instruction for Use (IFU). To mix the material, transfer the entire contents of the Solidifier container into the Base container. Then, mix thoroughly together to achieve a uniform material. Next, apply the Belzona 5721 directly onto the prepared surface with a good-quality long bristled brush at the recommended coverage rate. If desired, a former can be used to smooth the surface. This needs to be done immediately after brush application of the product and prior to removal of previously applied tape. If applying using a cartridge/ piping bag, apply beads of Belzona 5721 directly onto the prepared surface and spread out evenly over the application area using the appropriate former at the recommended coverage rate.
