Belzona 3412 (Encapsulating Membrane)

Flexible and peelable coating, used for encapsulating flanges and bolt fastenings to protect against moisture ingress and prevent corrosion.
Description

A 2-part, liquid-applied emergency roof repair material providing instant waterproofing of leaking roof areas. Belzona 3121 (MR7) is a flexible membrane and bonds strongly to all common roofing surfaces including slate roofs, tile roofs, asphalt, felt, asbestos cement sheet roofs and metal roofs, even during adverse weather conditions.

This fast-curing, all climate roof repair coating incorporates a reinforcement sheet which ensures the coating will adapt to roof movements and follows complex roofing contours. This roof waterproofing membrane is water resistant immediately after application and can cure even if fully immersed in water.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

The flange encapsulation system, Belzona 3412, works by creating a multilayer barrier designed to exclude moisture and prevent crevice, galvanic and atmospheric corrosion.

The flange protection system, Belzona 3412, can be applied in two ways: by brush or spray. To apply by brush or spray, first clean the surface of the pipe and flanged connections to remove all dirt, grease, and other surface contaminants. If applicable, thoroughly abrade the surface with abrasive paper (sandpaper) or wire brush to remove all gloss and provide a good key for the Belzona coating. Then, apply masking tape over the two bond areas to protect the pipe areas from accidental overspray. To allow access to bolts and flanges in the event of required maintenance, we recommend the application of Belzona 8411 by brush or spray. This also provides an optimum level of corrosion protection. Once the Belzona 8411 is touch dry, remove the masking tape. After, re-apply fresh masking tape. To seal the gap between the flange faces, cut a strip of Belzona 9341 to the correct width and apply it over the gap. Next, fit plastic caps over the nuts/bolts.
  • Brush: At this point, empty the Belzona 3412 base and solidifier contents and thoroughly mix in the bowl provided for at least three minutes. Transfer the mixed Belzona 3412 to the flange face and bolts using a spatula. Using long, light strokes, brush the material over the entire area, ensuring it does not extend outside the prepared area. While the first coat of Belzona 3412 is still wet, bed strips of Belzona 9311 around the circumference of both ends of the pipe and the flange. Finally, mix and apply the second coat of Belzona 3412.

  • Spray: At this point, empty the Belzona 3412 base and solidifier contents and thoroughly mix in the bowl provided for at least three minutes. Fill the cartridge of the Belzona Spray Gun. Spray the material over the entire area, ensuring it does not extend outside the prepared area. While the first coat of Belzona 3412 is still wet, bed strips of Belzona 9311 around the circumference of both ends of the pipe and the flange. Finally, mix and apply the second coat of Belzona 3412.
