Belzona 1251 (HA-Metal)

A heat-activated epoxy paste for in-situ repair and protection of hot metal surfaces with minimal surface preparation.

Description

A durable, single-component metal repair composite based on a silicon alloy blended with a heat-activated epoxy resin. Designed to repair and protect metal surfaces suffering from corrosion under insulation (CUI), Belzona 1251 (HA-Metal) can be easily applied by spatula, applicator, or brush.

This heat-activated composite repair material can be applied directly onto hot surfaces (70-150°C / 158-302°F) with minimal surface preparation avoiding production downtime. Once cured, this solvent-free epoxy repair composite provides outstanding corrosion protection.

Belzona 1251 (HA-Metal) is ideally suited to be over coated with Belzona 5851 (HA-Barrier) to ensure long-lasting performance. This composite belongs to Belzona products Emergency Metals series 1000.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

To repair and protect metal surfaces suffering from corrosion under insulation with Belzona 1251 (HA-Metal), only apply the heat-activated epoxy material to clean, firm, dry, and well-roughened surfaces. To achieve this, firstly clear away any loose contamination and use Belzona 9111 (Cleaner/Degreaser) to clean and degrease the surface. Following this, roughen the surface by blast cleaning, deeply scoring, or grinding. Degrease the surface again, allowing the surface to dry before applying the product. Belzona 1251 (HA-Metal) is a single component product and so no mixing is required. The curing process will not commence until the product is heated. Next, apply the Belzona 1251 (HA-Metal) directly onto the prepared surface with the plastic applicator or spatula provided. Press down firmly to ensure maximum contact with the surface and allow to cure. Finally, mixing tools should be cleaned immediately after use with Belzona 9111 or any other effective solvent e.g., Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK). For more information, read the Instructions for Use (IFU): Belzona 1251
The cure time for the epoxy paste, Belzona 1251 (HA-Metal) is primarily dependent on the heat-cure temperature. The cure time is as follows:
Temperature Ligh loading Full thermal or mechanical loading Optimum heat resistance
158F/ 70C 1 ¼ hours 5 hours 7 days
185F/ 85C 25 minutes 2 hours 5 days
212F/ 100C 15 minutes 1 hour 3 days
239F/ 115C 15 minutes 1 hour 1 day
Overcoating can be carried out up to 3 days after the previous application. For more information, see the Instructions for Use (IFU): Belzona 1251
The working life of the metal repair composite, Belzona 1251 (HA-Metal) will not commence until the product is heated; therefore, the working life of Belzona 1251 is effectively unlimited. For more information, see the Instructions for Use (IFU): Belzona 1251
